En el contexto actual las organizaciones no sólo deben centrarse en aumentar las ventas. Tienen el deber moral de asumir un compromiso social que cuide, conserve y fortalezca las potencialidades de su entorno. ISO 14001:

- – Aplicación Internacional.
- – No es obligatorio realizar una Declaración Medioambiental.
- – El proceso de certificación es llevado a cabo por un Organismo Certificado acreditado.
EMAS:
- – Dirigida a todos los sectores de actividad.
- – Aplicación europea.
- – Excelencia de la gestión ambiental dentro de las organizaciones. Es el Sistema que goza de mayor reputación.
- – Mayor exigencia en cuanto a los requisitos exigibles para su certificación respecto a la ISO 14001.
- – Es obligatorio presentar una Declaración Medioambiental.
- – El proceso de verificación es llevado a cabo por verificadores medioambientales acreditados.
